Tried it in two browsers, too, so I think it crashed and burned and no one's around to pick it up.

I find this link to be very user friendly, and mostly correct:
http://www.setlists.net/

Oh, that's awesome. Doesn't always have the notes that DB is famous for, but I like it.

I can now hunt for '66 and '67s I don't have, too..

Alas! Just before he abandoned the thing I mail-ordered for DB X and all the annuals. Plus as a bonus they sent me the Junior Deadbase that was for taking on the road. That's the one I use the most as it's small but not quite as complete as X. In any case I rarely had to visit the site. I did so occasionally, to see if there was any news or any plans but it was definitely quiet. Surely it must be in the "cloud" but he may have just taken it down.

I always found cross-referencing (trying to find all the April Fool's shows etc.) not that difficult although not as quick as using the site I'm sure. My favorite thing to do with Deadbase (other than browsing)at one point was when someone handed me a tape with no info on it or filler unidentified and tracking it down using intuition and DB. Fun. I had an earlier DB (IV) but gave it to my brother years ago. I don't really collect anymore but I do still pull out the DB's sometimes to re-read reviews forgotten and sometimes for stats. I had the '93 annual out(the last one) just the other day.

Sometimes a good old fashioned hard copy is good for things like never crashing. Its been worth it for 18 years (and some duck tape) and counting.

It's not worth the $78 (and up) for me. I do have DB VI, at least. Problem is that the online DB let you search specific dates (or months, etc.). So if I wanted to quickly see how many April Fool's shows they played, I'd be set. Tough to do with the hardcopy.

I guess you could try the archive's Wayback Machine :-)

That's a shame. Hope somebody shows up to bring it back up (though that site hasn't been updated in eons). I don't have a hard-copy DB.

Oh, and another whine while we're at it: Deadnet's "Search Shows by Year" feature has been unusable for a long time. It was a great user-friendly feature, but thanks to some glitch it defaults to "All Shows," so if you were looking for anything past, oh, early '67, you'd get carpotunnel from hitting "next" and go blind from staring at the screen before you found it.

See, I'm a completist. I know not all AUDs are going to be great, but I want to get as much as I can. I'll pay for the Dick's and Dave's and DL series and so on, but I like getting good AUDs from the Archive. Rather than tediously go through each year and fill my drive up, I approach it more methodically - some might say OCD-like! - I look for unusual shows, shows with guests, shows played only once in a venue, shows in which a song was played for the only time, and so on.

My current make-busy project is itemizing the shows according to day (not date). So I look at March, for example, and I see that I have no shows from March 4 of any year. Well, I can go to the IA and check March 4 of each year from 66-95, but good lord would that take time. Or I could go to Deadbase and plug in March 4 and see what shows there were - then go from there.

It might not have been maintained much lately, but it sure had a lot of useful filters.

The URL is active. The search function on Deadbase isn't.

You're right--it's definitely off-track. I use it in conjunction with Deadlists on a weekly basis, but haven't seen these wacky results ever before.

I tried to contact John Scott at Dharma Rose and offer to help (I'm a web programmer). He is listed as the registrar of the deadbase url and he runs Dharma Rose as well, as far as I can tell. I haven't heard back. Anyone know John or know how to contact him? It would be a terrible thing to have this resource disappear, I know I used it all the time.

Agree - this is a treasured resource and I'm so bummed it's down. I've been a subscriber since DB3. I hope everyone's Ok. I just tried emailing them but it bounced back. Keep us posted if you hear anything !
Peace

I can reference that sucker pretty quickly. We should have a race like they first did with trains against horses. You get the computer and I get the hard copy. Loser buys drinks or coffee. How many D/S performed in the month of May- ever? Go!

Told ya' I would win. ;-)
